A tin-roofed, mud and straw-walled cottage sits at the centre of Gibson’s 5-acre vineyard in Light Pass. It was the original home of the local Blacksmith and his family, thought to date back to the 1850s. An enchanting artefact of the Barossa’s early European settlers, we know it simply as ‘The Smithy’.
This red wine, like The Smithy cottage itself, is full of character and unassuming charm. The quintessential Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, the elements of The Smithy come together seamlessly.
The Smithy 2021 vintage boasts lifted aromas of violets, blackcurrants and blueberry fruits. The palate shows beautiful freshness with layers of blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit intertwined with hints of choc mint and blood plums. The finish is focused and dark, finishing with long and rolling grainy tannin.
Colour: Dark crimson with violet hue.
Aroma: Lifted aromas of blackberry fruit, cassis, and black olive.
Palate: The palate shows beautiful freshness with layers of blackberry and boysenberry fruit intertwined with hints of sweet baking spice, crushed herbs and cocoa.
Food Pairing: It pairs particularly well with slow cooked lamb shanks or a seared rib-eye steak with garlic butter.
