Vandenberg 6 Brothers Pinot Noir 2023

This is an attractive wine with sound varietal character, ample complexity and a good sling of flavour through the finish. It tastes of strawberries and red cherries with undergrowth and tobacco as complexing agents. There’s an element of sweet-sour fruit here, both on the nose and in the mouth, which works nicely. This is drinking well right now. A medium-bodied wine in a lovely crimson red, with tastes of raspberry and cherry, and aromas of red fruits, spice, and toasty oak.

The Six Brothers range of wines are defined by quality, not regionality. They craft wines to a style, selecting fruit from regions that excel in any particular year.  Winter rainfall was close to average and the season began with full soil moisture profiles. Grape canopies were able to reach full size as they kept growing into early January. However, cooler than average conditions in March and April slowed ripening considerably with the latest crops harvesting into late April to May to reach target sugar levels. The fruit was carefully grown on a site that is approx 500m elevated and has a southerly aspect.  The fruit was harvest in the cool morning before being crushed and de-stemmed at the winery. The fermentation was kept cool and the extraction gentle to ensure the wine remained fresh and soft. Wine spent approximately 9 months in French oak barrels.

Colour: Lovely crimson red.

Aroma: Generous with red fruits, spice and toasty oak.

Palate: Expressive flavours of raspberry, cherry and a hint of earthiness. Enjoy the balance of the medium body with fine tannins in the background.

Food Pairing: Perfect with scotch fillet with pepper sauce.
