The naming of this wine has deep history with the Golding family’s Adelaide Produce Market trader background, dealing in a range of produce from the Adelaide Hills. The produce now is all about the wine trade, here touting a value-end Chardonnay, the regional hero white variety attracting plenty of attention these days.
The Exchange is a name closely wound into the history of the markets. A notorious local watering hole, it is where market folk gathered for a chat and a knock off after a busy night of trade, their toil ending as the rest of the city came to life.
The Exchange Chardonnay is made from premium cool climate fruit sourced from ‘Block 2’ Western Branch vineyard in the Lenswood sub region of the Adelaide Hills. Pale straw in colour with lifted aromas of nutmeg and spice, it offers bright citrus and peach flavours on the palate. A delicious toasted cashew character gives way to a crisp and lingering finish.
This is more towards the yellow stone fruit spectrum end, with a definite Middle Eastern spice note, citrus elements suggesting pink grapefruit at the centre of the palate, with a creaminess in the texturals to confirm the wine’s richer feels, while oak only raises its head in spicier finishing notes. Value for those into a richer-style Chardonnay.
