The Merchant reminds us fondly of our family roots in the early morning markets. Spruiking the very best that we had to offer, fresh from our beautiful patch high in the Hills, to the bustling trading stalls of the city.
The fruit for this wine is grown in Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. This vineyard is slightly warmer and drier than our Western Branch Vineyard. This allows the fruit to fully ripen, resulting in a wine that is generous in fruit flavours with balanced tannins. The Merchant doesn’t have the green characteristics that are sometimes associated with cool climate cabernet.
This generous cool climate Cabernet shows aromas of blackberry, herbs and cassis on the nose, with juicy blackberry flavours and fine tannins leading to a well-structured finish. Quite dry but with soft tannins. Blackberry and plum fruit. Easy drinking.
Colour: Medium Red colour.
Aroma: The aromas are complex strawberry with hints of raspberry, green apple, citrus and subtle brioche.
Palate: Dark, rich fruit, cedar, and mint is accompanied by flavours of eucalyptus.
Food Pairing: Consider dishes with strong, savory flavours, or even dark chocolate desserts.
